How to pick a paint contractor!

1. The best place to get referrals for a painter is either from friends and family or by going to you local paint store and requesting the names of reputable contractors. Make sure to call at least 3-5 painters for bids.

2. When you are scheduling a painter to come and give you a bid, make sure to request that they bring along a list of at least 2-3 references and proof of liability insurance. Also, any bid should always be free of charge. If a contractor charges for a bid then you don’t want them.

Advice On Hiring A Building Contractor

Advice On Hiring A Building Contractor

Hiring the right building contractor is essential to getting your construction job done properly, whether it’s a new home, or an extension or upgrade to your current residence. Using a poor contractor will only give you more trouble than good in the form of long delays, an overextended budget, or a flat out terrible construction job. When considering prospective contractors, there are several qualities to look for. It is important that a building contractor has a proven track record. Check that they have been in business for several years and ask them to provide you with a list of their completed projects. The list of completed projects provided should include a number of references that you can call and / or visit. Make sure the reference list includes projects that were recently completed as well as projects that were completed several years earlier. Be sure that the contractor you are considering has experience in completing similar projects to the one you want them to perform.  With so many possible construction projects, different skills are needed for the variety of jobs. A contractor who can whip up a new roof in a few hours may never have done anything with foundation repair. It is therefore important that the contractor has a proven track record performing your required task. Look for a building contractor who demonstrates good project management skills. They should also show themselves to be methodical with their planning and construction. If you get the impression that a building contractor is ‘winging it’ whilst they are talking with you during the proposal / bidding phase then give them a miss. The reason being that you can expect more of the same when the actual building work gets underway. Get the proposal or quote in clear, definitive writing. All construction costs should be specifically detailed as well as the projected timeline for the start and completion of the job. Accompanying this documentation should be any applicable architectural drawings. Be sure to clarify payment terms and schedules and get in writing any materials to be used if the builder is subcontracting any work. The contractor should also display financial stability. It is obvious how far back you would be set if the contractor folds halfway to completion. It might also be a good idea to check online for any pending or current lawsuits the contractor may be involved with. The local trade authority should also be able to help you out by providing a list of contractors who have a less than stellar reputation.
